CHARLES STEVENS ADDITIONAL COLLECTION

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Charles Stevens Additional Collection was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives in November of 1988.  Charles Stevens served as Piqua Second Ward Commissioner and Mayor.  The collection fills four Hollinger boxes and sixty-one file folders.  The collection covers the period from September 29, 1980 to January 6, 1981.  There are no restrictions on the use of this collection and the literary copyright has been deeded to the public.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENTS

 

The Charles Stevens Additional Collection is divided into four series:  City Commission Meetings; City Finances; City Departmental Reports and City Boards and Commissions.

 

SERIES I:  CITY COMMISSION MEETINGS:

Covers regular and special meetings held from September 29, 1980 to August 17, 1981.  The series contains minutes, agendas, ordinances, resolutions and various reports pertaining to current city matters.

 

SERIES II:  CITY FINANCES:

Contains city financial statements for December, 1980; June and July, 1981.  Utility Department Financial Report, 1980; Financial Statements as of December 31, 1980; City Budget work Sheets, 1981; Monthly Report, Municipal Power Plant, April 1981; Memorandum on Accounting Procedures Internal Control and Other matters, April, 1981; and City of Piqua County Tax Budget, 1982.

 

SERIES III:  CITY DEPARTMENT REPORTS:

Contains monthly reports dated July, September, October, November and December, 1980, January through July, 1981 and a Fire Department monthly report for February, 1981.

 

SERIES IV:  CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS:

Contains a meeting of the City Planning Commission held January 6, 1981.

 

HISTORY

 

Charles Stevens, born 1932, was appointed to the Piqua City Commission in July of 1979, filling the unexpired term of Charles Tyler.  He was elected for a full term as a Commissioner in the fall of 1979.  In November 1983, Stevens ran for and was elected Mayor.  He left office after completing his term in January of 1988.

 

Charles Stevens is an Air Force Veteran, serving as a Russian interpreter and language specialist during the Korean War.  He worked over fifteen years in radio and television, coming to Piqua in 1963 to work at radio station WPTW.   He is currently (1988) employed at Hobart Corporation in Vandalia, Ohio.  Stevens and his wife Ann reside at 312 South Main Street, Piqua, Ohio.
