UPPER SPRINGCREEK COMMUNITY CLUB COLLECTION

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The collection of the Upper Springcreek Community Club was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives 21 December 1988.  The collection fills two Hollinger boxes and ten individual file folders.  The collection covers the years 1926-1989.  There are no restrictions on the use of this collection and the literary copyright has been deeded to the public.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENTS

 

The Upper Springcreek Community Club Collection is divided into three series:  Minutes and Programs, Financial and Miscellaneous.

 

SERIES I:  MINUTES AND PROGRAMS – covers minutes of meetings January 1932-19 December 1985.  At the beginning of each book of minutes, a copy of the Club Constitution and Amendments are shown.  A listing of charter members and current members are also there.  Copies of club programs are included in the category.

 

SERIES II:  FINANCIAL – covers Treasurer’s records from January 1943-January 1952.  There are three newspaper ads and the paid receipt and a copy of a floral bill marked “paid”.

 

SERIES III:  MISCELLANEOUS – covers a book of poems written by Clara M. Bode of New Knoxville, Ohio

 

HISTORY

 

The Upper Springcreek Community Club was organized at the home of Mrs. Leonard Hill, the first President, 18 March 1926.  Charter Members were:  Grace Brokaw, Louise Cooper, Bessie Denman, Etta Drake, Bertha Durnell, Kate Ginn, Julia Hill, May Kerns, Myrtle Kerns, Maude Lans, LuDean Looney, Lillian Schulz, Luella Schulz, Rebecca Schulz, Minnie Shawler, Elizabeth Smith, Elsie Stein, Florence Stein, Jean Stilwell, Cora Wagner, Faye Wilson and Lena Woodmancy.

 

Prior to the organization of the Springcreek School’s Parent and Teacher Association [P.T.A.] in 1950, this club undertook numerous projects and donated money, time and home cooked meals for the betterment of the students.  They also sewed for the local Red Cross Chapter during World War II and provided many personal items and kindnesses for the wounded servicemen in the Patterson Field Hospital near Dayton, Ohio.  Through the years the club has maintained a constant membership and has consistently supported the Springcreek School and the community.
