HISTORY

On November 12, 1936, thirty-two women met at the Y.W.C.A. and signed their names to the constitution as wanting to establish a Piqua Branch of A.A.U.W. Katherine Weber was elected President, Mary Quirk as Secretary, and Marie Leonard as Vice-President. Dues were $3.00 yearly.

The first contribution of $5.00 to the National Educational Foundation Program was made in 1937 and has been continued annually. Money making projects have been book fairs, card parties, style shows, puppet shows, and postalettes. In 1976 an impressive booklet – “Historic Piqua – An Architectural Survey” was compiled.

Many scholarships have been given to local high school girls. Over the years and still today, A.A.U.W. is a very active and valuable asset to the city of Piqua, Ohio.
