HISTORY

Edison State College began in the old Spring Street School building at the corner of Spring and Ash Streets. It moved to its Looney Rd. location in the fall of 1976. The public Open House was held on Sunday, October 24, 1976. The invitation invited the public to attend the Open House for “Ohio’s first General and Technical College.”

The first commencement was held on June 14, 1976. Twenty-four students of a graduating class of twenty-seven took part in ceremonies held at the Upper Valley J.V.S.

Today Edison State offers more than thirty two-year Associate degrees designed to transfer to four-year colleges or to launch a professional career.

About 3,000 students attend Edison State Community College annually. The college offers vocational degrees, with various specialties in business, computers and information technology, health and nursing, hospitality, industrial technology, natural resources, and public safety services. It is especially known for its natural resources programs.
