2008 HALL OF FAME WINNER Helen Schelle (1893-1984) Schelle was born in Piqua but spent most of her adult life in New York. She operated the Penny Walker Toy Shop in Binghamton, New York in the mid-1920’s. At the beginning of the Great Depression, she joined with Herman Fisher and Irving Price to establish the world renown Fisher-Price Toy Company in East Aurora, New York in 1930. Schelle and her partners would be the first toy company to receive a license to make Walt Disney character toys. Schelle died in Piqua at the age of ninety-one.
