THE RACHEL A. GRAY ZIMMERMAN SCRAPBOOK COLLECTION

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Rachel A. Gray Zimmerman Scrapbook Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library Archives and Special Collections on September 10, 2012.  The collection is a gift from Mr. Craig Zimmerman of Aurora, Illinois, the son of Rachel A. Gray Zimmerman.  The collection consists of two scrapbooks, a poster, three newspapers and three post cards.  The dates included in the scrapbooks are 1920 to 1925.  The collection is housed in  a single Hollinger box containing nine files.  There are no known restrictions on the use of these materials.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

The Rachel A. Gray Zimmerman Scrapbook Collection is divided into the following two series:

 

SERIES I:  Rachel A. Gray Scrapbooks – Box 1, Files 1 & 2

SERIES I:  Rachel A. Gray Scrapbooks

 

File    1        School Memories – this scrapbook contains materials from the years

1920, 1921, 1922 and 1923.  Contained in this book are sporting events tickets and newspaper clippings, party invitations, arts events tickets, YWCA girls groups materials, theater tickets to May’s Opera House, programs and program pamphlets, concert programs from Dayton’s Memorial Hall, notes and mementoes from trips to the Lakeside Campmeeting Association event on Lake Erie in 1921 and 1922, Church trips to Oberlin College in 1921, 1922 and 1923 and six pages of photographs.

 

          2        My Book of Stunts & Frolics – this scrapbook contains materials

collected by Rachel A. Gray during the 1923-1925 school years.  Rachel was a senior in the Class of 1925.  The book begins with a commencement invitation.  In the following pages are a photograph from the newspaper of the PHS Class of 1925, a program from the Sans Souci (PHS French Club), a program pamphlet from the Friendship Club of the Y.W.C.A.,  a variety of newspaper clippings of events around PHS, photographs taken at the Y.W.C.A. Girl Reserve Conference at Winona Lake, Indian in the summer of 1923, materials from the high School Girl Reserve Conference in June 1924 at Mary Eell’s Camp, Madison, Ohio, materials from the Queen Esther Circle of Greene Street M. E. Church, more newspaper clippings and cards from her graduation gifts.
