The Nevada Landon – Piqua High School Class of 1932 COLLECTION

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Nevada Landon-Piqua High School Class of 1932 Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library Archives and Special Collections on 13 September 2012.  The collection was donated by Ms. Mary Sue Mays of Tempe, Arizona, the granddaughter of Nevada Landon. 

 

The collection contains commencement programs, play programs, and newspaper clippings all related to the PHS Class of 1932.  The collection also contains materials and a photograph of the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1932.  Finally, included in the collection are four Piquonian Yearbooks and nine Piquonian Quarterlies all of which belonged to Ms. Nevada Landon.  The yearbooks contain autographs of teachers and students and notes next to some of their pictures containing information on where they went to college, married and to whom and in some cases date of death.

 

The collection is housed in a single Hollinger box containing 23 files.  There are no known restrictions on the use of these materials.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

The Nevada Landon –Piqua High School Class of 1932 Collection is divided into the following four series:

 

SERIES I:     Piqua High School Class of 1932 Programs and newspaper clippings – Box 1, Files 1-8

 

SERIES II:   PHS Class of 1932 Fiftieth Reunion materials – Box 1, Files 9-12

 

SERIES III:  Piquonian Yearbooks owned by Nevada Landon – in these yearbooks are autographs of teachers and students and notes on what happened to various students and teachers, i.e. marriages, deaths, etc. – Box 1, Files 13-16

 

SERIES IV:  Piquonian Quarterlies collected by Nevada LandonBox 1, Files 17-23

          4        Senior Class Play program, “Oh Doctor” presented by the Class of 1932, May 13-14, 1932.

          5        Program for the Class Sermon to Seniors of Nineteen Hundred Thirty Two, High School Auditorium, Sunday Evening May 29, 1932 (2 copies)

          6        Program for the Sixty Ninth Annual Commencement, Piqua High School, June 2, 1932 in the High School Auditorium.  (2 copies)

          7        Newspaper clippings and obituaries of Frances Adeline Wills and Grace Adeline Strawser, cousins, who were killed in an automobile accident on June 1, 1931.  Frances Adeline Wills had just complete her sophomore year at PHS and Grace Adeline Strawser was a member of the PHS Class of 1931.  [The Piqua Daily Call account of the accident is not part of the collection.  It is placed here for information purposes.]

          8        Copies of newspaper articles about the 1932 Senior Class Play, “Oh, Doctor.”

 

SERIES II:           PHS Class of 1932 Fiftieth Reunion materials.

          9        Letter to the class members announcing the date, time, location, and price of the 50th Reunion.

          10      Program for the Fiftieth Anniversary Reunion 1932-1982, 1932 Graduation Class from Piqua High School.  The program contains the names and addresses (where possible) of the class members.

          11      Photograph and identification of the members in the photograph of those class members present at the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1932.

          12      Newspaper clipping from the Piqua Daily Call, 26 August 1982 describing the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1932.  Also a letter sent to each of the Reunion Committee Members by Nevada Landon & Lester Williams congratulating them and thanking them for the very successful reunion.
