RAY COPPOCK BEERY PRACTICAL CHILD TRAINING COLLECTION
INTRODUCTION
The Ray Coppock Beery Practical Child Training Collection was accessioned into the archives of the Piqua Public Library in February 2012. The collection consists of sixteen small books and a letter. The books were written by Ray Coppock Beery and were copyrighted in 1917 by both The Parents Association, Inc., 449 Fourth Avenue, New York and by the International Academy of Discipline, Pleasant Hill, Ohio.
Ray Beery was the eldest son of Jesse Beery, the owner operator of The Beery School of Horsemanship, which was a mail order course of instructions on training horses. The school expanded into a variety of agricultural courses and it is possible that the International Academy of Discipline was associated in some way with the School of Horsemanship. Ray Beery was educated in Pleasant Hill and then went on to receive an Arts Bachelors degree from Columbia University, c. 1914 and a Master of Arts degree from Harvard University in March 1916. Ray returned to Pleasant Hill, was married and living in the Village at the time of the 1930 census.
The books have passed into the public domain and there are no restrictions on their use.

17 Letter from the International Academy of Discipline, Pleasant Hill, Ohio. The letter was written by Jud Coate, Secretary of the International Academy of Discipline and is introducing a new series of three books by Ray C. Beery entitled Practical School Discipline. On the letterhead, Ray C. Beery is listed as the Director of the International Academy of Discipline. There is no date on the letter, however, an estimate would be c. 1920.
