Piqua Fire Department Industrial Fire Hydrant and Fire Suppression System Drawing Collection

Introduction

The Piqua Fire Department Industrial Fire Hydrant and Fire Suppression System Drawing Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library Archives and Special Collections in September 2011.  The collection was the result of a records transfer from the Fire Department to the Archives of the Piqua Public Library.  The collection is housed in a single Hollinger box containing thirty-one files.  The dates of the drawings are from 1927 to 1973.  The drawings show the locations of fire hydrants, water mains, sprinkler systems and potentially dangerous conditions to fire fighters such as false ceilings, fuel tanks and other hazardous materials.  The drawings are of major industrial sites in Piqua by company name.  The materials in the collection are public records and as such are available to researchers without restriction.

The collection came to the Library bound in a home made book.  The covers of the book were fiberboard and the front cover was hinged on the left.  The book contained fifteen brown paper numbered pages.  The drawings were attached to the brown paper with glue or double stick tape.
