PIQUA HISTORICAL SOCIETY ADDITIONAL COLLECTION
MS-136A, The Piqua Historical Society Additional Collection was added to the Flesh Public Library Archives and Special Collections in June, 2006. The collection is contained in one box with seven file folders. It consists of material from 1977-1991. There are no restrictions on the use of this collection.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
MS-136A contains one box of 7 file folders encompassing the years 1977-1991.
In the fall of 1977 three members of the Board of Trustees of the Piqua Historical Museum began to formulate a plan for the organization of a local historical society.
The museum was only three years old and new volunteers were needed to aid in its growth. A society was formally incorporated on January 30, 1976 with Janet K. Koon, Howard B. Hogston, and Donald Bertling serving as the first trustees. In December 1976 Miss Mary Mitchell, a member of an early Piqua family, is credited with purchasing the new organization’s first membership.
Organizational meetings were held in March and April of 1977. The first recorded formal meeting was May 17, 1977 when the Society elected its first officers. They were Bruce Hogston, president; Dick Palsgrove, vice-president; Bonnie Searles, secretary, and James Oda, treasurer.
