PIQUA COUNCIL OF CHURCHES COLLECTION

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Piqua Council of Churches Collection was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives on 21st August of 2002.  The collection comprises two Hollinger boxes and eighteen file folders.  The collection covers the years 1971 through 2001.

 

There are no restrictions on the use of this collection.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENTS

 

The Piqua Council of Churches collection is divided into four series:  constitution and by-laws/Installation of officers – annual banquet; minutes/correspondence & attendance; financial reports; and miscellaneous.

 

Series I – Constitution/Installation of officers at annual banquet;

 

Series II – Minutes/correspondence & attendance;

 

Series III – Financial Reports;

 

Series IV – Miscellaneous

 

HISTORY

 

The Piqua Council of Churches is comprised of Piqua ministers and lay leaders who meet on the second Monday of each month, September through May, in different churches.  There is no given date for its inception, but the Constitution was amended in 1971.

 

The current program includes leadership of and participation in the annual prayer breakfast at Thanksgiving time, Good Friday services before Easter, Heritage Festival church services, and graduation receptions for high school seniors in June. (Baccalaureate)

 

The Piqua Council of Churches financially supports the Salvation Army, Young Life, Hospital Chaplaincy, Meals on Wheels, Miami County Rehabilitation Center, Jail Ministry, and Habitat for Humanity, among others.

 

The name of the organization was changed to the Piqua Association of Churches in November, 2000.
