Election campaign material - "Proclamation by Andrew Jackson, President of the United States, December 10, 1832. 'Our Union Must Be Preserved,' 'Our Country Shall Be Defended.'"  This proclamation was printed on silk as campaign material for the Democratic Party in the 1836 or 1840 elections.  It was probably printed locally by a newspaper.  It was framed when accessioned into the library archives and museum collection.  The left and right edges are a finished weave and are obviously the original size of the artifact.  The top and bottom have been cut off to fit the frame.  It is probable that the top originally had a sleeve into which a rod could be inserted in order to carry or hang the item.  The bottom probably had a pocket or sleeve to hold a weight to keep the fabric tight.
